After having a c/section birth your Obstetrician w After having a c/section birth your Obstetrician will chat with you before your discharge to advise the implications on your future births.
In the following pregnancy you will have an appointment to discuss your birth options.
It’s good to know the following before you decide:
✳️If Vaginal Birth After C/section birth is successful, you will be less likely to have complications than if you have an elective repeat c-section.
✳️Your recovery is likely to be quicker.
✳️Your hospital stay may be shorter.
✳️You will avoid the risks of surgery.
✳️You will be more likely to have a successful vaginal birth in future pregnancies.
✳️Your baby will have less chance of breathing problems in the days after birth.

👶🏼On average, about 1 in 4 women will require an emergency c/section during labour. This carries a higher risk of complications than an elective repeat c-section.
For women who have had a vaginal birth before, about 1 in 10 will need an emergency c/section .
🩹There’s a higher chance of the scar in your uterus tearing. This can occur in approx 1 in 200 women.
*You have a slightly higher chance of needing a blood transfusion compared with women who choose a planned caesarean section.
*The risk to your baby of brain injury or stillbirth is higher than for a planned c-section, but is the same as if you were in labour for the first time.
